Bass poured straight from the barrel Situated on the Jurassic coast of East Devon The Dog & Donkey can be found in the little village of Knowle near Budleigh Salterton. Traditionally famous for being a Bass house we are also proud to offer the local beers of the Otter brewery company including their Otter Ale (4.5% abv) and Amber (4.0% abv), all of our real ales are kept at 13c and are poured straight from the barrel making for a great taste.

Some may be confused by the name "The Dog & Donkey" as we are also affectionately known as the Britannia Inn but my wife and I preferred to go with what the locals have grown to know as "The Dog".

The Dog and Donkey, regular winner of the Britain in bloom award The pub was built in 1926 and has slowly grown over the years into what we know and love now, it still holds a lot of the old character and charm which makes for a warm and friendly environment. It has always been known as a real ale house but we also stock local "proper" ciders like Westerns Old Rosie (7.3% abv) and their Stowford Press (4.5% abv).

To complement our fine selection of real ales and ciders, our head chef has drawn on his experience of working at some of this country's finest restaurants to build our menu with the brief of only using fresh local produce which is in season. We feel he has done an amazing job and really has shown off some of the Westcountry's finest ingredients. The only thing left to do is to come and try it for yourself.

The Bar

One of the things that attracted us to this pub was its bar, it has a very warm and cosy atmosphere where topical conversation is shared by locals and holiday makers.

Throughout the winter we have an open log fire burning and during the summer we open up the beer garden that overlooks a grass meadow with local horses.

We also have live music on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, this is courtesy of the Otter Valley bush band that like to jam in the main bar (requests are welcomed).

Friendly dogs are welcome in the main bar and snug but are not allowed into the restaurant that also leads to the beer garden.

The Restaurant/Function room

Our main restaurant is decorated with paintings and pictures from local artists, all of which are for sale. This room is Chefs platter for the Chinese themed night used in the summer for our fine dining events, themed nights and, during the winter, it is also used for our home team's skittles matches.
